Family, writing, and travel, particularly to the south of France, are my passions … okay, and chocolate … and I’m seldom without a camera. I received a Kodak Brownie camera at the age of six and have told stories through photography ever since. It’s a labour of love.
When I’m not somewhere else, the beautiful city of Toronto, Canada, is home. I feel fortunate to spend part of each winter in southeast Florida and in summer you will find me in the south of France researching my next novel. Life is good.
For the most part, I write women’s contemporary fiction with a focus on the years after our families are grown, as I explore the possibilities that may present themselves. I find it satisfying to celebrate the rewarding friendships of women and to examine the challenges life often throws in our paths.
However, with travel a serious passion of mine, I also have written articles for the fabulous Bonjour Paris website, French Connections and The Good Life France, and two anthologies. Further information may be found on my website. I like to make the settings of my novels important to the story as a whole and my readers have let me know they enjoy that aspect.
Most Fridays, you can find me rhapsodizing about France on my blog in words and photography.

Speaking of readers, I want to shout out here that there is no greater reward for authors than to receive feedback from readers. We love to hear from you!
My award-winning debut novel, The Bridge Club, was published in 2010 through iUniverse. I later released another edition on Kindle Direct Publishing which required a different cover but I assure you they are the same story. Besides the Amazon.com link above, The Bridge Club is also on Amazon in the UK and Canada. Barnes & Noble in the U.S. and Chapters/Indigo in Canada too!
“Ms. Sands, the author, a Canadian who obviously loves her big city as well as country splendor, writes with grace and care about the native beauty her protagonists have grown up with. We come to know and feel the happiness and the vicissitudes of the women. This is a book which should be enjoyed among friends; it is an enriching story.”– R. Weiss, Amazon reviewer, “Bookmania”
The Promise of Provence was an Amazon Hot New Release in April 2013. As well as a compelling story about a woman named Katherine Price ‘coming of age’ in her fifties, it’s also my love letter to France. Winner of a Finalist Award for the 2013 USA Best Books in Womens Fiction and a Finalist Award for Literary Fiction, 2014 National Indie Excellence Awards.
Now available on Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.co.fr as well as Nook, Kobo, and iTunes, in both ebook and print or pop into your favourite local bookstore and ask them to order it for you! We do love to support our bookstores!
“Be prepared to fall in love with Provence! This is a story that will draw you in with its vibrancy in setting and characters. A must read for any woman with a desire for romance and travel.”–Steena Holmes, author of Amazon bestseller Finding Emma
